MAIBACH APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF THE
EUROPEAN-AMERICAN  BUSINESS COUNCIL

Experienced Executive Leads EABC at a Critical Time for Trans-Atlantic Relations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The European-American Business Council (EABC) has appointed Michael C. Maibach as President and CEO. Maibach will work with EABC’s 40 European and American companies to promote Trans-Atlantic trade, investment and job creation.

“Promoting a stronger Trans-Atlantic commercial relationship is of the utmost importance to the future growth of the European and American economies,” said EABC Co-Chairmen Hugo Paemen and Stuart Eizenstat. “We are pleased to have Michael’s leadership as we advance the EABC 2004 Policy Agenda. We will continue to strengthen our efforts to foster increased trade and investment between the United States and Europe.”

During his 18-year tenure as government affairs vice president at the Intel Corporation, Maibach was an effective high-tech advocate on major industry issues. He came to be known as a leading spokesman for America’s electronics industry on trade and technology topics, testifying before the U.S. Congress a total of 15 times and publishing a wide array of policy articles.

“I look forward to working with the EU Commission, the European Parliament, the Bush Administration and the U.S. Congress as we promote EABC’s policy initiatives across the Atlantic, and around the world,” Maibach said.

Prior to joining Intel, Maibach served as a government affairs manager for seven years at Caterpillar, Inc. In addition to a prestigious government relations career, Maibach has served in government in both elected and appointed positions. While a student at Northern Illinois University (NIU), he was elected at age 20 to the Dekalb County Board. Maibach also served on the Illinois State Senate staff, and was involved in President Reagan’s Commission on Industrial Competitiveness and former President Bush’s National Advisory Committee on Semiconductors. Maibach earned a BA and MA from NIU, a BA from California State University, a BS from American University and an MA from Georgetown University.
