Experienced Executive
Leads EABC at a Critical Time for Trans-Atlantic Relations
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The European-American
Business Council (EABC) has appointed Michael C. Maibach as President
and
CEO. Maibach will work with EABC’s 40 European and American companies
to
promote Trans-Atlantic trade, investment and job creation.
“Promoting a stronger Trans-Atlantic
commercial relationship is of the utmost importance to the future
growth
of the European and American economies,” said EABC Co-Chairmen Hugo
Paemen
and Stuart Eizenstat. “We are pleased to have Michael’s leadership as
we
advance the EABC 2004 Policy Agenda. We will continue to strengthen our
efforts to foster increased trade and investment between the United
States
and Europe.”
During his 18-year tenure
as government affairs vice president at the Intel Corporation, Maibach
was an effective high-tech advocate on major industry issues. He came
to
be known as a leading spokesman for America’s electronics industry on
trade
and technology topics, testifying before the U.S. Congress a total of
15
times and publishing a wide array of policy articles.
“I look forward to working
with the EU Commission, the European Parliament, the Bush
Administration
and the U.S. Congress as we promote EABC’s policy initiatives across
the
Atlantic, and around the world,” Maibach said.
Prior to joining Intel, Maibach
served as a government affairs manager for seven years at Caterpillar,
Inc. In addition to a prestigious government relations career, Maibach
has served in government in both elected and appointed positions. While
a student at Northern Illinois University (NIU), he was elected at age
20 to the Dekalb County Board. Maibach also served on the Illinois
State
Senate staff, and was involved in President Reagan’s Commission on
Industrial
Competitiveness and former President Bush’s National Advisory Committee
on Semiconductors. Maibach earned a BA and MA from NIU, a BA from
California
State University, a BS from American University and an MA from
Georgetown
University.
